O Espigão ou quebra-mar foi construído para resolver o problema da erosão na orla da Ponta d’Areia,situa-se em um dos bairro mais valorizado da ilha onde é possível ver o skyline em formação da cidade.O local ficou bem famoso e se tornou um dos cartões postais da cidade,
e que é bastante movimentado principalmente no fim da tarde onde as pessoas vão para ver o por-do-sol onde
tem uma vista privilegiada do horizonte.
